Aircraft Structural Design Engineer (5-10 yrs)

Main responsibilities :

- Work on design and configuration of primary aircraft structure

- Support Airframe supplier coordination and integration

- Support the Aero and Configuration teams with lofting/surfacing

- Support subsystems integration and packaging into the primary structure

- Provide technical support in design and development of the preliminary structures layout that meets weight, cost, manufacture-ability and certification requirements

- Perform stress analysis of complex composite and metallic structure leading to weight-efficient design

- Help guide product design and verify structural integrity by using analytical methods and finite element models throughout the product life cycle

- Structural analysis tasks include static strength, stability, durability, and damage tolerance

- FEM development, analysis runs, and post-processing of analysis results

- Support internal/external design reviews, technical review meetings, and design reviews (PDR/CDR)

- Airframe supplier coordination and integration

- Effectively communicate progress to the leadership team and convey any potential schedule/design risks and/or opportunities

- Support IPT leads in the creation and review of the schedule including analysis, test, and validation from the development phase through certification

Experience and qualifications :

- A master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or similarly related stream

- 5 years- Experience in performing design of large aerospace structures as well as leadership experience

- Lead internal/external design and technical reviews

- Strong composite structural design background

- Proficiency with NX, CATIA V5, and Teamcenter PLM is preferred

- Strong surfacing skills is preferred

- Experience with Fibersim or equivalent is preferred

- Experience during the preliminary and detailed design phases of aircraft development is strongly preferred

- Clear understanding of external loads, load paths, and free body diagrams

- Ability to analyze and size composite structures using classical laminate theory and finite element methods. Strong knowledge of composite fabrication methods is a plus

- Knowledge of FEM analysis software (ex: FEMAP/NASTRAN preferred)

- Capable of utilizing 3D CAD software to aid in the performance of stress analysis (NX preferred)
