Airlock - VTL Setter cum Operator (5-7 yrs)
CNC VTL / VTM Setter cum Operator - Roles & Responsibilities
1. Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL)/Vertical Turn Mill machines as per job requirements and engineering drawings.
- 5-10 years - Experience in Fanuc programming is required.
- Load and set cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures accurately.
- Adjust tool offsets, work offsets, and parameters for optimum machining performance.
- Operate CNC VTL / VTM machines to perform turning, facing, boring, threading, and grooving operations.
- Ensure first-piece inspection is done and verified before proceeding with batch production.
- Ensure 100 % production efficiency with minimum setting time.
2. Program Handling
- Load CNC programs and verify correctness against the component drawing.
- Make minor program adjustments (feeds, speeds, tool paths) to improve machining accuracy or efficiency.
- Communicate with setters/supervisors for any program correction or improvement.
3. Quality Control
- Check components using measuring instruments such as Vernier callipers, micrometres, bore gauges, height gauges, and surface finish testers.
- Ensure parts conform to drawing dimensions and tolerances.
- Maintain records of in-process and final inspection results.
- Report non-conformities or deviations immediately to the supervisor or quality department.
4. Machine Maintenance
- Perform daily and periodic preventive maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, coolant level check, etc.).
- Ensure tools and holders are properly maintained and stored.
- Report machine breakdowns or abnormalities to the maintenance team promptly.
5. Production & Documentation
- Plan and execute machining as per production schedule and priority.
- Maintain production records like setup time, cycle time, and quantity produced.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions strictly.
- Support continuous improvement and productivity enhancement activities.
6. Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow all safety guidelines, use PPE (gloves, goggles, safety shoes, etc.) while working.
- Ensure work area and machine are kept clean and organized (5S practice).
- Handle heavy components and tools using proper lifting equipment.
7. Teamwork & Communication
- Coordinate with production supervisors, quality engineers, and maintenance personnel.
- Provide training or assistance to junior operators when required.
- Communicate effectively about tooling issues, dimensional problems, or machine performance.
