AM/DM/Lead - Design Development - Gear Box (4-8 yrs)
Position Summary :
- Candidate will handle custom gear design projects for Portescap including gear design, optimization, integration with other mechanical components into composite motor and gear box assembly.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities :
- Evaluate existing gearbox components and production designs to modify and optimize to meet customer requirements or develop whitepaper solutions
- Develop detailed engineering specifications to the component level for all gearbox components - gear, shafts, bearings, housing, lubrication system, material selection, heat treatment or other secondary processing.
- Work with entire supply chain to launch into production from supplier, engineering, product validation thru launch to operations meeting total cost and quality objectives
- Timely preparation of quotes, proposals and documentation for new products
- Work with manufacturing to resolve technical issues on existing designs
Functional Skills :
- Gear design and manufacturing processes - helical, spur and bevel gears, gearboxes and transmissions
- Planetary & Parallel axis gearing design experience
- Bearing selection - ball, sleeve, preloading calculation, bearing rated life calculation
Position Description Statement :
- Tribological analysis
- Material selection and heat treatments common in gear industry for optimal performance
- Gear simulation and analysis for optimum gear geometry, life and gear noise / vibration analysis
- Gearbox validation and testing
- Other required skills: Mechanical design, GD&T, stack up analysis, DFMEA, 2D/3D CAD modelling
