Title : Deputy Manager (Tool Design)

Overall Purpose of the Role :

- Responsible for the development and design of tools, fixtures and other devices used for production based on engineering specifications. Ensures the designed tools are consistent with standard tool configuration and effective. 


- Lead and co-ordinate resources within the Tool room to ensure all tooling are produced and maintained efficiently, on time and in line with quality standards ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. 


- Should have experience of 10+ years in tool design.

Key Responsibilities :

- Must have knowledge of designing and manufacturing of all types of tools for producing Sheet metal components.

- Should have Knowledge of Vacuum Forming moulds & PU Foaming fixtures.

- Should have Knowledge of designing & modifying special purpose machines (SPM), Jigs & Fixtures, Welding Fixture, Receiving gauges and panel checkers.

- Should have experience in Costing & cost negotiations with vendors for developments of parts & tools at vendor end.

- Handling engineering activities involving development, negotiations, procurement, trial & validation of dies, moulds, fixtures, jigs & their spare.

- Troubleshooting problems, analyzing root cause & providing counter measure for any issues

- Modification in existing tools as per the requirement from R&D, Quality issues & cost reduction purpose.

- Production Engineering activities like New line installation & commissioning, New tool development, Launching of new models, and all Tooling activities of Press tools (Tandem & Transfer type both), Thermo forming dies / moulds & foaming fixtures.

- Should always be familiar with various kinds of manufacturing process to make a component.

- Should have knowledge of a vast variety of engineering material, their properties, and their application to meet the requirement of component.

- Studies blueprints and determines tool specifications and requirements by interfacing with manufacturing staff to determine the best design for the tool.

- Performs calculations to determine exact dimensions, materials required and cost of the tools.

- Works with engineering to identify problems with performance or tool life and recommends solutions or enhancements.

- Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawings, using standard drafting tools and equipment or computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software.

- Modifies tool designs according to trial or production service data to improve tool life or performance.

- Ensure to manufacture process troubleshooting.

- Manage purchasing, design and manufacturing prototype as well as production tooling.

- Participate in APQP process to ensure tooling arrives correctly and on time.

- Perform with production to create new tooling designs.

- Develop tooling standards utilizing lessons learned approach for enhancing designs plus reduce scrap.

- Prepare new tooling sources to reduce cost and enhance quality.

- Perform with customers to facilitate design tooling to be cost effective as well as repeatedly develop quality components.

- Manage entire project activities beginning from order receipt through first production run.

- Make sure the tooling required for a job is ready to begin the production.

- Documentation of tooling development

- Review the performance of tools - inspect and evaluate the tool from time to time.

- Train operators on new equipment and its process.

- Provide a guideline to the technician on maintenance and repair procedure of new tool.

- Assist the designer and provide a detailed drawing of tools that include a list of parts and assembly drawing.

- Support and cooperate with another department, such as planning.

Qualifications and Experience Levels :

- Relevant engineering degree/diploma is preferred

- Extensive plant level experience with significant proven supervisory experience

- Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Kaizen, lean manufacturing

- Understanding of TS16949, IOSH/NEBOSH, ISO 14001

- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
