COOLING SYSTEMS DIRECTOR
ROLE:

Drive the overall design including coolant and topology selection for the thermal management of the high-voltage, high-density battery packs used in the vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Drive the development of the cooling system and its various subcomponents for the cell/battery packs.

- Oversee and contribute to the thermal architecture of the battery as per the required attributes and behaviors

- Drive the schema and layout of the coolant and cooling topology used in the battery design, constraint to the performance expectations and the battery chemistry

- Drive the material selection for the in-pack coolant, partitions, insulations, etc., for the thermal management of the battery by evaluating its impact on the performance during faults, failures and abuse

- verse the mechanical design of the cooling subsystem down to component level

- Take ownership for the thermal performance of the battery during expected usage and ensure robust fault tolerance and abuse performance

- Steer the experimentations associated with the thermal performance evaluation of the battery during regular usage and abuse appropriate for the target market

- Drive the vendor selection for the components by benchmarking against industry standards while keeping the cost low.

SKILLS:

- Proven strengths in electrochemistry

- Keen understanding of thermodynamics and thermal management of high voltage systems

- Experience with thermal topologies for battery construction and an understanding of material and topology selection on the attribute performance for the battery

- Strong understanding of mechanical schematic diagrams

- Experience with different mechanical layout and insulation methods for batteries

- Experience with working on projects with cross-functional teams

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Master's degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering or related fields

- PhD with exposure to thermal management of batteries is a plus

- 10+ years experience in a relevant senior engineering position

BACKGROUND:

- Experience with design and ownership of thermal management of batteries at large BEV startup

- Experience in thermal management of battery pack required
