EHV Substation Design Engineer (3-7 yrs)
Job Summary:
The EHV Substation Design Engineer is responsible is responsible for design, engineering, and technical support of AC substations upto 765kV, and HVDC substations. The role involves primary and secondary engineering, review of EPC contractor designs, compliance with technical standards, and coordination during construction and commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Engineering:
- Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLD) and substation layouts (AIS/GIS).
- Review busbar arrangements, bay configurations, and equipment clearances.
- Prepare General Arrangement (GA) drawings, equipment layouts, and sections.
- Select and specify major EHV equipment:
- Power transformers
- Circuit breakers
- Isolators & earthing switches
- CTs, PTs/CVTs, surge arresters
- Perform and review electrical calculations:
- Short-circuit levels
- Insulation coordination
- Conductor sizing
- Voltage drop
- Design & Review earthing and grounding systems as per IEEE 80 / IS standards.
Secondary Engineering:
- Review and approval of protection schemes for:
- Transmission lines
- Transformers
- Busbars and reactors
- Vetting of relay settings, control & relay schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Coordination for SCADA, RTU, and PLCC/OPGW systems.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850-based SAS is desirable.
Standards & Compliance:
- Ensure designs comply with:
- IEC, IEEE, IS, ANSI standards
- Utility / client technical specifications
- Participate in design reviews and approvals.
Project Coordination:
- Interface with civil, mechanical, protection, and SCADA teams.
- Review vendor drawings, technical documents, and data sheets.
- Support procurement by preparing technical specifications and BOQs.
- Provide site engineering support during erection, testing, and commissioning.
Documentation & Quality:
- Prepare and maintain design reports, calculation notes, and as-built drawings.
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC procedures and project schedules.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 3- 7 years of experience in EHV substation design (AIS/GIS).
Required Skills & Knowledge :
- Strong understanding of EHV substation engineering principles.
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, ETAP
- Knowledge of earthing design, protection systems, and SCADA integration.
- Familiarity with utility and EPC project execution.
- Strong learning orientation
