Our client is a design, engineering and technical consultancy company incorporated in England in 2013 to provide expertise to the UK and international transmission, distribution, and renewable sectors.
The Job:
Position Overview:
- This role is to be offered at either Junior Engineer or Mid-Senior Engineer level depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
- You will be working with other team members and managers and responsible for Engineering and Design services during the proposal, engineering and construction stages of projects with strict adherence to the project contract for medium-voltage and high-voltage electrical projects, both Transmission and Distribution, including but not limited to 11- 400kV range with an emphasis on project safety, cost, quality and reliability.
- This position requires the ability to clearly and effectively communicate in order to success- fully collaborate, coordinate, and resolve project design related activities and issues. It also requires the ability to independently manage design with minimum supervision. Good conversation and writing skills as well as normal tact and courtesy are required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The range of designs will include conductor sizing and modelling, insulation selection, lightning protection, line routing, PLS-CAD modelling, clearance checking and structure and foundation design and analysis using PLS-TOWER or PLS-POLE
- Preparation of detailed design drawings for construction and design calculations, including civil interface design in accordance with the Client's requirements and relevant design standards to achieve cost effective solutions.
- Involved in the execution strategies and upfront work for projects (e.g., topographical surveys, geotechnical investigations, tower spotting, design basis statements, understanding the construction estimates).
- Collaborate with other disciplines and offices within the company to develop successful designs and solutions to engineering problems.
- Review the work by Other Designers, giving consideration to construction costs and making an effective contribution to identify and resolve any issues.
- Review calculations provided by others and understand if the level of information presented is suitable, appropriate and the design is economic. Such activities may require a forensic review on hand calculations and the output from computer design packages.
- Experience in the use of Eurocodes and British Standards or equivalent.
- Develop to advanced level design packages, in the use of structural analysis software, AutoCAD, MS Office and various other in-house calculation software as required.
- Able to work under pressure and meet tight schedule deadlines.
Ideal Candidate:
Qualifications, Essential Skills and Experience:
- Honours degree in the relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Civil, Structural, Mechanical)
- Working towards or registered as a qualified Engineer with a professional or regulated body
- Extensive experience in Auto-CAD, PLS-TOWER, PLS-CAD, PLS-POLE design tools
- Experienced in designing of OHL catenary and wood pole including feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design and modelling
- Proficient in the modelling and detailing of civil foundations and steelwork structures
- Good understanding of construction and site health and safety requirements
- Excellent client facing skills
- Require good communication skills both verbal and written English to be able to effectively liaise with stakeholders in the region.
