Job Description : Engineer - R&D Hydraulics (Casting Hydraulics - Spool Valves)

Position Title : Engineer - R&D (Casting)

Department : R&D - Casting Hydraulics (Spool Valves)

Experience Required:

- Degree (BE/B.Tech): 3- 5 years

- Diploma: Minimum 5 years

(Must have completed at least one end-to-end casting development project)

Role Summary:

The Engineer - R&D (Casting Hydraulics - Spool Valves) will support the design, development, validation, and industrialization of cast components used in hydraulic systems- specifically spool valve housings, control valve bodies, manifolds, and other hydraulic casting parts. This role requires strong casting engineering knowledge along with hands-on project execution capability.

Key Responsibilities:

Product & Process Development:

- Evaluate product designs for casting feasibility (drafts, radii, wall thickness, parting line, riser/gating feasibility).

- Provide castability inputs to design teams during early stage development.

- Prepare feasibility reports and manufacturing guidelines.

Casting Project Execution:

- Manage the complete casting development cycle: Design - Tooling - Sample trials - Validation - Production handover.

- Collaborate with tooling teams or vendors for tooling/pattern design.

- Monitor sample development trials and ensure compliance with requirements.

Hydraulic Spool Valve Component Knowledge:

- Experience with spool valve housings, valve bodies, hydraulic manifolds, control valve components, etc.

- Translate hydraulic performance and leakage requirements into casting design considerations.

Material, Metallurgy & Quality:

- Select casting materials suitable for hydraulic components (SG Iron grades, CI grades, aluminum, etc.).

- Work with metallurgy/quality teams for composition checks, microstructure evaluation, and defect analysis.

- Support RCA for casting defects and drive corrective actions.

Testing & Validation:

- Support prototype builds and validation as per hydraulic spool valve performance standards.

- Evaluate test results and recommend design or process improvements.

Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Work with foundries for tooling approval, trial runs, and process capability checks.

- Coordinate with design, procurement, quality, and production teams for project execution.

- Conduct supplier audits for casting process capability.

Documentation & Compliance:

- Maintain DFMEA, PFMEA, APQP, PPAP documentation for projects.

- Provide structured project status reports to management.

Qualifications:

Education:

- BE/B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering, OR

- Diploma in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering

Experience:

- Degree holders: 3- 5 years in casting or hydraulic component development.

- Diploma holders: Minimum 5 years relevant casting development or foundry experience.

- Must have completed at least one full casting development project.

- Experience in hydraulic spool valve castings is a strong advantage.

Technical Skills:

- Strong understanding of sand casting, shell moulding, gravity die casting, etc.

- CAD knowledge (Inventor, Creo, SolidWorks, NX).

- Good understanding of GD&T, DFMEA, PFMEA, APQP, PPAP.

- Knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment, and defect analysis.

Soft Skills:

- Strong problem-solving capabilities.

- Excellent communication and team coordination skills.

- Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
