Estimation Engineer (3-5 yrs)
Department: Project Estimation / Design
Location: Head Office / Remote Coordination
Reporting to: Project Manager / Design Head / Director
Job Purpose:
The Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate project cost estimates and budgets by thoroughly understanding project requirements, analyzing the BOQ (Bill of Quantities), reviewing drawings, and applying correct pricing based on standard rates and vendor inputs. The role ensures competitive and profitable cost proposals that align with technical specifications and client expectations.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Project Understanding & BOQ Review:
- Study project scope, architectural & MEP drawings, technical specifications, and client requirements.
- Understand the functional needs of Hydrant, Sprinkler, Pump Room, Fire Alarm, and other fire fighting systems.
- Coordinate with Design team to validate BOQ quantities and system design.
Cost Estimation & Budgeting:
- Prepare detailed project cost estimations including material, labor, tools, subcontracting, transport, and overheads.
- Apply correct and updated pricing based on historical data, vendor quotations, and industry benchmarks.
- Build project budgets with cost-wise, item-wise, and system-wise breakups.
- Evaluate multiple solution options and propose the most cost-effective configuration.
Rate Analysis & Vendor Coordination:
- Collect and analyze vendor quotations for all major materials and services.
- Perform rate analysis and maintain a database of standard pricing for components (pipes, valves, pumps, sprinklers, panels, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Purchase department for latest rates and vendor terms.
Proposal & Documentation:
- Prepare and submit technical and commercial proposals as per RFQs/tenders.
-Support the Sales or BD team with technical documentation and costing support during client discussions.
- Ensure timely submission of costing sheets, quotations, and revision updates as per requirement.
Revision & Updates:
- Revise estimations in case of design changes, quantity variations, or material substitutions.
- Track and maintain all versions of BOQs and estimates for audit and reference.
Handover & Coordination:
- Provide the finalized budget and estimation sheet to Project Execution team.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings to clarify cost assumptions and estimation basis.
- Support project team during execution for any estimation-related queries.
Key Skills Required:
- Strong understanding of Fire Fighting Systems and BOQ interpretation.
- Accuracy in quantity take-offs, cost calculations, and rate analysis.
- Good command over Excel, estimation software, and AutoCAD.
- Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and cost-awareness.
- Strong coordination skills with internal teams and vendors.
Qualifications :
- Diploma/B.E. in Mechanical / Fire / Civil Engineering.
- 2- 5 years of experience in Fire Protection / MEP Estimation roles.
- Familiarity with fire fighting system codes, IS standards, and local pricing trends.
