Head - Engineering & Maintenance (14-20 yrs)
Job Purpose:
- This role is primarily responsible for leading the engineering and maintenance functions at the Vizag plant, ensuring all equipment meets safety and statutory compliance standards.
- The role is expected to drive continuous improvement in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), lead Engineering Development and Capital projects, and build Maintenance capability across the Plant.
Key Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
- Ensure adherence to all safety systems and processes in line with global standards (LTT, Machine Safety, PTW, Electrical Safety, Gas safety, High Risk activities, etc.).
- Conduct and lead periodic safety audits and implement corrective actions.
- Liaise with external statutory compliance bodies (e.g., Electrical Inspector, Factories Inspector, Legal Metrology Department) for approvals, inspections, and certifications.
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability:
- Ensure high machinery/equipment uptime through effective preventive and predictive maintenance planning and execution.
- Monitor and improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
- Manage spare parts availability, utilities, and timely calibration of measuring/control instruments.
- Ensure timely statutory testing of material handling equipment, pressure vessels, etc.
- Lead engineering problem-solving efforts using structured quality tools with minimum Turnaround Time (TAT).
- Prepare and submit monthly engineering reports to management.
- Complete Facility Management & Maintenance
- Ensure Zero downtime in plant utilities.
Project & Capex Management:
- Plan, justify, and execute capital expenditure projects aligned with business goals (e.g., process debottlenecking, technology adoption, compliance upgrades).
- Lead engineering initiatives related to group standards, new product/process introduction, and local regulatory changes.
Cost Efficiency & Resource Optimization:
- Maintain cost-effective maintenance practices and control over engineering OPEX.
- Optimize spare parts inventory and manage energy conservation initiatives.
- Control overtime and improve workforce efficiency within the engineering team.
People Development:
- Develop technical competence of Managers, Engineers, assistants, and contract workforce through training and on-the-job coaching.
- Foster a high-performance culture within the engineering team.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Build strong cross-functional collaboration with production and operations teams.
- Drive a culture of 5S, visual management, waste elimination, work standardization, and structured problem-solving.
Qualification, Experience & Skills Required:
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from a reputed Institute
- Experience: 14- 20 years in Engineering/Maintenance roles in large Manufacturing Plants (INR 1000- 1500 Cr scale)
Technical Expertise:
- TPM, Lean Engineering, Autonomous Maintenance, and Structured problem-solving (e.g., 8D)
- Exposure to PLC systems, Firing systems, high-pressure and high-precision equipment, Crushing & Grinding, Batch Management System
Soft Skills:
- Strong Leadership and Team Management skills
- Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a multicultural and cross-functional environment
- Additional: Experience in managing Vendors, Contractors, and compliance with statutory bodies
