Head - Engineering Outfitting (12-16 yrs)
Role Overview
- Lead all engineering outfitting, system integration, and installation activities for new vessel construction at this Shipbuilding Organisation .
- Drive completion of mechanical, piping, HVAC, and electrical systems, ensuring compliance with schedules, customer specifications, and safety regulations.
- Act as the technical authority, coordinating with design, procurement, vendors, and quality teams to deliver vessels successfully.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage the entire vessel outfitting scope, including mechanical, piping, electrical, and commissioning phases as per project schedules.
- Allocate resources and guide section heads for effective engineering execution.
- Oversee installation, alignment, and fastening of major machinery (main engines, auxiliaries, propulsion/steering gear).
- Supervise pipework, HVAC, insulation, electrical cabling, instrumentation, and communications systems integration across vessel sections.
- Ensure hot work and preparatory activities are completed in line with safety and production requirements before critical project milestones.
- Maintain high standards of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) for all installations and system trials.
- Manage commissioning activities, including Set to Work, Harbor Trials, and Sea Trials as per statutory and Classification Society norms.
- Resolve technical and quality issues with customer representatives and regulatory authorities.
- Support post-delivery after-sales service and manage guarantee claims for delivered vessels.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering is required.
- 12- 15 years of experience in shipbuilding or ship repair, with at least 5 years in a senior management or head role (AGM/DGM).
- Direct expertise in system integration, machinery alignment, complex piping/fluids, and vessel commissioning.
- Prior experience in defense or complex commercial vessel projects is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with statutory, classification, and OEM standards and requirements.
Skills & Competencies :
- In-depth technical understanding of shipbuilding processes and standards.
- Strong knowledge of QHSE practices and compliance.
- Exceptional leadership and team management abilities with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Effective resource allocation and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP), MS Office, and project management tools.
