Head - Operations - Cold Chain Business (8-10 yrs)

POSITION SUMMARY :

Cold chain BU has demonstrated outstanding performance since launch. Serving more than 200 customers, the business has made strong inroads into each of every segment. Focus so far has been on providing FTL service, running on the operations network. As the next phase of growth, the business has aggressive plans to build the LTL (Less Than Truck-load market). This requires building and running the beyond line haul infrastructure and operations. It would mean operating Pan India network of cold storages and first mile/ last mile reefer fleet. The Cold Chain Operations head is required to develop the team, build the network and deliver the highest level of operational excellence.

Reports To: Dual reporting to - National Operations Head and Cold Chain business head

Direct reports: Need to build his team from grounds up.

Location: Gurgaon

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Build the network-plan for pan-India coverage of cold chain LTL services - Locations for hiring cold stores, sizing of infrastructure based on business plan, pick-up vehicles required for first mile/ last mile

- Ensure network is designed for most optimum cost of service

- Build teams and organizational capability through strong performance management, mentoring and development, effective strategic recruiting and talent management, and succession planning

- Develop SOPs for operational excellence at cold storages, pickups, and deliveries

- Drive day-to-day operations of the distributed set up

- Build KPI structure for entire operation

- Set-up best in class processes - For DEPS (Damages, Shortages..etc), end-to-end transit time, store delivery, appointment delivery, temperature management- etc

- Ensure FIFO and accurate stock management of stocks in warehouse

- Drive technology development for stock management, temperature management, transit visibility- etc

- Create a framework for information/ MIS sharing with clients on a real-time basis.

- Execute regimented training programs to field operating team to drive discipline and operational excellence

DESIRED OUTCOMES :

- Put in place the organization structure, infrastructure build up plan, network design, KPI framework, SOPs within few week of joining

- Cold chain network and team in place before time as per business plan build out

- Six Sigma level performance for temperature management, DEPS, inventory management and delivery/ pickup compliance

- Most optimum cost of operations

CANDIDATE PROFILE

IDEAL EXPERIENCE :

- 8-10 years- experience with top tier manufacturing company else E-Com company

- B.Tech from top tier engineering college

- Proven track record of managing plants/ factory/ supply chain operation

- Has experience of setting up new factory/ warehouse/ transportation network operations

- Should have experience in managing large operations teams.

- Has led user requirement building for any technology development projects; WMS (Warehouse Management Systems, SAP - Manufacturing module- etc)

CRITICAL LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES :

- Process focused - Should be extremely process focused. Ability to develop new SOPs. Lead teams towards best in class process discipline

- Driving Results - Setting up a strategy and implementing a business plan, Managing operations performance against plan

- Identify and implement key operational efficiencies across operational sites

- People development skills - Ability to hire right talent and inspire them to give the best.

- Cost focus - Should have the ability to design and run most cost efficient operations.
