HSE Officer (4-6 yrs)
The Safety Officer is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) programs across the organization. The role ensures compliance with legal requirements, conducts HIRA and impact studies, promotes a strong safety culture, and ensures safe workplace practices to reduce incidents and occupational hazards.
A. EHS Compliance & Management
- Implement and monitor EHS policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with local regulations and international standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.).
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain records of permits, statutory documents, and regulatory reporting.
B. HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment)
- Lead and support HIRA activities for all operations, new processes, equipment, and projects.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Task-Based Risk Assessments (TBRA), and recommend risk-control measures.
- Ensure implementation of hierarchy of controls to reduce workplace risks.
C. Environmental & Impact Studies
- Conduct Environmental Impact Studies/Assessments (EIA) related to ongoing and upcoming projects.
- Monitor environmental parameters such as waste, emissions, noise, and pollution levels.
- Assist in developing environmental management plans and sustainability initiatives.
D. Safety Culture Development
- Promote an organizational safety mindset through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and engagement programs.
- Support behavioral-based safety (BBS) initiatives to improve employee participation and safe work practices.
- Recognize and encourage safe behavior through reward and recognition programs.
E. Incident Prevention & Investigation
- Assist in accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, and preparation of reports.
- Track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for closure and effectiveness.
- Support emergency preparedness planning and conduct drills.
F. Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety induction for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Deliver training programs on PPE usage, fire safety, chemical safety, first aid awareness, and other EHS topics.
- Maintain training records and competency matrices.
G. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly EHS performance reports.
- Maintain and update safety registers, risk assessments, MSDS, and permit-to-work systems.
- Track KPIs such as near-miss reporting, TRIR, unsafe conditions, and corrective actions.
3. Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of EHS standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Proficiency in HIRA, JSA, PTW systems, and emergency response.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance and impact assessment.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to influence people and build strong safety culture.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
4. Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma/Degree in Engineering or Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent).
- Nebosh IGC/IOSH certification preferred.
2- 5 years of experience in safety/EHS roles (industry-specific experience desirable).
Familiarity with ISO 45001/14001 management systems.
