Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineer specializing in Extra High Voltage (EHV) Substation systems to support the design, engineering, and execution of hyperscale data center projects. The role involves end-to-end leadership of EHV/ HV infrastructure, ensuring reliability, compliance, safety, and timely delivery of power systems supporting large-scale mission-critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities

- EHV / HV Substation Engineering

- Lead design, engineering, and review of EHV/HV substations (132kV/220kV/400kV) for hyperscale data center projects.

- Prepare and validate single-line diagrams (SLDs), protection schemes, short circuit studies, load flow, relay coordination, and grounding systems.

- Evaluate transformer specifications, switchgear, GIS/AIS systems, busbars, UPS interfaces, and overall electrical architecture.

- Oversee cable selection, routing, sizing, and termination strategies for high-voltage networks.

Project Planning & Execution :

- Work closely with utility providers, DISCOMs, OEMs, EPC vendors, and contractors to ensure alignment of EHV infrastructure with project requirements.

- Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, FAT/SAT reports, and ensure adherence to design standards.

- Support site execution, installation, commissioning, and integration of EHV/HV systems.

- Ensure that substations meet hyperscale data center availability and redundancy standards (N+1, N+N).

Compliance & Standards

- Ensure designs comply with national/international standards (IS/IEC/IEEE/NFPA).

- Support internal audits, safety inspections, and energy compliance requirements.

- Drive risk assessments, reliability studies, and contingency power planning.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with data center design, MEP, operations, and capacity planning teams.

- Interact with cloud/hyperscale clients for technical discussions and design reviews.

- Coordinate with civil/structural teams for substation layouts, cable trenches, and equipment foundations.

Required Skills & Experience

- 10+ years of experience in EHV Substation Engineering, preferably with exposure to hyperscale data center, utilities, or mission-critical infrastructure.

- Strong experience with 132kV/220kV/400kV substations, GIS/AIS systems, protection relays, and power distribution systems.

- Proficiency in tools like ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, AutoCAD, and relay configuration systems.

- Strong understanding of power system studies: short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, grounding, harmonic analysis.

- Prior experience handling EHV projects from concept design to commissioning.

- Good understanding of redundancy concepts (Tier III / Tier IV).

- Excellent stakeholder management, vendor coordination, and documentation skills.

Good-to-Have Skills

- Experience in data center electrical design (MEP integration).

- Exposure to UPS, DG systems, SCADA, BMS/EPMS integrations.

- Understanding of hyperscale client design standards (AWS, Azure, Google, Meta).

- PMP, CEA certification is a plus.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E / B.Tech).

Master's degree in Power Systems / High Voltage Engineering preferred.
