Manager - Machine Shop

Reporting to : DGM - Production

BE with 15+ years / DME with 20 years experience

Age around 40

- Only from Automotive background, who handled OEMs must

Role Summary: To Ensure rated output with defined quality, safety, cost and environment and to adhere the environment and statutory procedure.

Authority & Responsibilities:

- Review with previous shift Engineer and log book current problems and issues, and sign the book.

- Check housekeeping (5s) from outgoing shift, and accept or action cleanup by previous shift.

- Review output on daily basis.

- Review scrap from yesterday.

- Discuss issues from last shift that will affect coming shift (eg. Machine down, shortages etc.).

- Re-affirm targets for today.

- Daily focus - Depending on the day, discuss: Safety / Kaizen / Scrap / Housekeeping / Quality.

- Announcements: OHSE or Quality issues, Visits, Audits, Equipment or Major Maintenance work.

- Attend production meeting as timetabled and report on area of responsibility and any issues.

- Ensure team members are at their workplace and working safely and efficiently.

- Watch operators regularly, and check in detail that they are following standard work, SOPs, control plans, following 5S cleanliness etc.

- Check process is running to correct parameters (temperatures, pressures, cycle times etc.)

- Conduct layered audits.

- Pickup and look at product from each line;Look for visual defects,Abnormal marks,Rough surfaces,Cracks and dents,Etc..

- Ensure all stoppage time and causes are logged.

- Ensure scrap and rework parts are being kept separately and properly identified.

- Conduct training of operators.

Review output.

Make sure all cells are tidy, and all parts are correctly identified in their various locations. No parts lying around under/on top of machines, on drip trays, on inspection benches etc.. Leaks have been cleaned up.

Check operators are doing their TPM checks.

Re-allocate personnel to appropriate work; Finish ancillary work, Finish reworking product, Cleaning machines, benches and gauging, Empty swarf bins, Clean the floor,Re-do lines on the floor, Check gauges are in good condition and in-calibration, Inspect tooling, etc..

Make sure all cells are tidy, and all parts are correctly identified in their various locations. No parts lying around under/on top of machines, on drip trays, on inspection benches etc.. Leaks have been cleaned up.
