Mechatronics Engineer (3-10 yrs)

Mumbai Job Code: 42291

Job Title: Mechatronics Engineer - Liquid Handling Systems

Location: Mumbai, Mira road.

Department: Engineering / Product Development

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Engineering Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a talented and hands-on Mechatronics Engineer to join our R&D team, focused on the development of automated liquid handling solutions for laboratory applications. In this role, you will lead the design and integration of mechanical, electronic, and control systems for high-precision instruments such as automated pipettors, dispensers, and fluidic platforms. You'll collaborate across disciplines to build innovative systems that automate critical lab processes with speed, accuracy, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

1. System Integration

- Design and integrate mechanical, electronic, and software components into cohesive liquid handling systems.

- Work with components such as syringes, valves, peristaltic pumps, and dispensers.

- Interface motor drivers, sensors (pressure, flow, liquid level), and embedded controllers for seamless operation.

2. Motion Control

- Develop and implement precise motion systems for pipette arms, syringe pumps, and XYZ gantry platforms.

- Apply stepper motors, servo systems, and encoders to ensure sub-millimeter accuracy and repeatability.

3. Fluidic System Design

- Collaborate with fluidics and biomedical engineers to develop efficient, low-contamination fluid paths.

- Ensure compatibility with varied reagents, minimizing dead volume and cross-contamination risks.

4. Sensor Integration

- Specify, calibrate, and integrate sensors for real-time feedback control:

- Liquid level detection

- Flow rate monitoring

- Pressure sensing

- Clog detection

5. Automation & Programming

- Develop or support control software for automated sequences including pipetting, mixing, aspiration, and dispensing.

- Work with firmware and interface software for system calibration, diagnostics, and LIMS integration.

6. Prototyping & Testing

- Rapidly build and iterate prototypes; evaluate system performance and identify improvements.

- Design and execute validation tests to ensure precision, reliability, and robustness over repeated cycles.

7. Compliance & Safety

- Ensure systems meet applicable laboratory and medical equipment standards (ISO 13485, CE, UL).

- Incorporate safety mechanisms and diagnostic protocols into the design.

8. Manufacturability & Serviceability

- Collaborate with manufacturing and service teams to ensure:

- Designs are easy to assemble and maintain.

- Components are modular and field-replaceable.

- Systems are scalable for mass production.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or a related field.

- 3+ years of experience in product development, preferably in lab automation, medtech, or precision instrumentation.

- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), electronics design, and embedded control systems.

- Experience with motors, motion control systems, and feedback loops.

- Familiarity with programming languages (C/C++, Python) and interface protocols (SPI, I2C, UART).

- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to prototyping and system debugging.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in designing or maintaining automated pipetting or fluid dispensing systems.

- Knowledge of laboratory automation platforms (e.g., Tecan, Opentrons).

- Exposure to regulatory frameworks (ISO 13485, FDA, CE marking).

- Experience with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, or lab-scale manufacturing.
