Section 1: Basic Information on Role
Job Role: Merchandiser
Division / Function / Department: Fashion Fabrics
Location: Head Office - Churchgate, Mumbai
Report to: VP - Business Development
Number of Subordinate (Direct + Indirect): 0
Working Timings: Monday to Saturday (10:00 am to 6:30 pm)
Note: Second and Fourth Saturdays will be holidays.
Job Purpose
- The Merchandiser plays a crucial role in the Fashion Fabrics division, acting as a central point of contact and coordination between buyers, suppliers, and internal production teams. This position ensures the smooth and timely execution of fabric orders, from initial sample development and approval to final fabric delivery, directly contributing to customer satisfaction and operational efficiency within the organization.

Scope & Boundaries: The role encompasses end-to-end merchandising activities for fashion fabrics, primarily involving coordination with domestic and international buyers, fabric mills, and internal planning/production departments.

Section 4: Principal Responsibilities: Operational
The Merchandiser will be responsible for a range of operational duties, including but not limited to:
Fabric Management:
- Responsible for diligent fabric follow-ups, accurate fabric calculations, and managing color approvals.
- Prioritizing fabric delivery schedules and following up on all fabric approval-related issues.
- Providing accurate fabric booking information (quantity and necessary details) to the fabric department.
Sample Management:
- Updating the production development team regarding various sample requirements from buyers.
- Checking the precise quantity required for each sample and ensuring all necessary paperwork for delivered samples is completed.
- Following up on labdips/strike-off submissions and actively chasing approval comments from buyers.
- Submitting required trims to the buyer for approval.
Order Management & Communication:
- Quoting realistic delivery dates to buyers after thoroughly assessing the factory's capacity situation.
- Meticulously checking all details in the order sheet upon receipt from the buyer.
- Communicating promptly with the buyer regarding any discrepancies or clarifications needed in the order sheet.
- Passing the correct and finalized order sheet to all concerned internal departments (e.g., Planning, Production, Commercial).
Supplier & Production Coordination:
- Preparing the cost sheet/checklist for individual trims required for each style.
- Obtaining detailed trim specifications from the buyer.
- Following up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of fabrics and trims.
- Monitoring the send and receive dates for panels to ensure a smooth production flow.
- Communicating with suppliers for general issues and resolving potential bottlenecks.
Stakeholder Interaction:
- Regularly meeting with local buyers and suppliers to build relationships and streamline processes.
Section 5: Qualifications & Competencies
Education Background:
Any First Class Graduate with good communication skills and a pleasing personality.
Graduates / Diploma holders from a Textile-related field will be preferred.
Experience:
Required 5 - 7 years of relevant experience in Merchandising, preferably within the Fabrics/Garment industry.
Technical Competencies:
Proven hands-on experience in merchandising processes.
Sound knowledge of related ERP software would be preferred.
Behavioral Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written & verbal English communication skills are mandatory.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport.
- High level of proactiveness and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.
