Operations Manager - Automobile (6-10 yrs)

- This requirement is for a Client of ours into B2B space having operations in 14 countries

- The role holder is responsible for overall management of Production & Engineering functions at the unit. 


- Responsibilities include productivity efficiency, optimal capacity utilization, monitor quality and adherence to delivery schedules. 


- The role will also be responsible for planning and budgeting for engineering and maintenance initiatives at the unit. 


Coordinating various procedures for production process in the unit including printing & graphic designs, trouble shooting, maintenance and asset management forms the crux of the role.

- Comply with Production Commitments - Volume & Contribution Margin

- Control and Optimize the Operating costs

- Reduction in Customer Complaints

- Comply with delivery schedule with accepted quality norms and agreed technical specifications

- OTIF ( On time in full) - adherence to delivery schedules

- Scrap reduction, Optimal asset utilization & Cost Management

- New process improvement initiatives

- Compliance to Safety and Statutory norms, IQMS

- Team Development

Key Tasks / Responsibilities :

Strategic :

- Participate with Unit Head to define production targets for the annual business plan and identify benchmarks - productivity efficiency, optimum asset utilization, etc

- Responsible for achievement of production targets as per the defined budgets

- Design and implement systems and processes to bring out higher machine efficiencies, quality improvements and reduction in wastage on a continuous basis.

- Participate in new product / process/ design development along with the NPD team

- Responsible for skill development and retention of key talent

Operational :

- Planning & Budgeting

- Plan for optimum asset utilization

- Review timelines, adherence to schedules of production, OTIF and implement corrective actions incase of gaps

- Prepare cost budgets for production/ engineering team along with Unit Head & Finance team

- Monitor daily performance vs. budgeted levels for production and engineering teams

- Production Operations

- Liaise with the Unit Head and Sales team to understand the production schedules and requirements

- Ensure target achievement as per production standards with optimum utilization of resources

- Ensure daily monitoring and reporting of total production in the unit

- Ensure that there is no shortage of materials needed for production

- Monitor daily quality and delivery schedules 


- Liaison with the Quality team to address rejection issues and take corrective actions

- Drive the productivity improvement initiatives and cost cutting measures

- Maintain good relations with Labor Contractors and ensure necessary resources are made available on time to meet the delivery and quality targets (OTIF)

- Ensure efficient coordination between various departments including planning team, logistics and stores team to ensure smooth flow of processes

- Implement good manufacturing practices in the unit (GMP & HMP)

- Review Critical Control Points (CCP) at periodic intervals and revise them on need basis

- Coordinate with customer cell team incase of new material code generation ensure compliance to the defined processes and standards ensuring zero non conformity in internal and external audit

Engineering & Maintenance :

- Ensure all machines in the unit are adequately maintained

- Responsible for operational efficiency - downtime, machine utilization, employee productivity, optimal utilization of all resources, meet the defined standards of quality, safety, costs etc-

- Provide direction to the team incase of any technical issues such as stoppage of machinery/ equipments, leakage, breakdown - address escalations and take corrective actions

- Supervise day to day preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance work

- Plan and implement machine/ process engineering initiatives- identify ways to increase the production capacity through effective asset maintenance

- Guide and direct teams incase of inspection and calibration of machines and recommend machine upgrades when required

- Participate in cost estimations, negotiation for components/ engineering spares and tooling as well as development of vendors

- Maintain minimum and maximum stock levels of all engineering spares which are manufactured by vendors

Safety, Health & Quality Standards :

- Maintain safety, health and environmental policies and procedures for the unit

- Work towards creating culture of safe practices for the production and engineering team

- Train employees on machine and equipment handling to ensure sensitization to the correct methods of handling the same

- Ensure adherence to quality control measures laid down by the organization

- Facilitate and support implementation of new systems and processes like TPM, Six Sigma, and Kaizen etc-

New Product Development :

- Participate with the NPD and C & I teams in new design development along with Printing and Graphics team

- Lead the process of new design development and approval for any product launched by the customer

- Suggest improvement/ value addition where required

- Constantly research to develop innovative designs to gain competitive advantage

MIS & Reporting :

- Ensure ERP Systems are regularly updated accurately by the team

- Ensure timely and accurate documentation

- Prepare SOPs for different stages of production and engineering

- Monitor performance and prepare variance reports when required

- Documentation of designs, drawings/sketches, job work and correspondence with clients and sales team

Developmental :

- Allocate and manage staff resources & provide complete clarity on the expectations

- Take appropriate measures to retain skilled people and manage attrition at the plant

- Interact with Union members to address any concerns

- Interact with Contractors to manage contract workers efficiently

- Introduce employee engagement initiatives to keep a high employee morale

- Operators/ Technicians - Training & Skills Improvement

Internal Relationships :

- Unit Production team, Unit Engineering team, Unit Head, Unit Planning team, Finance team, Unit Stores & Logistics team, Unit HR team, Other Unit Heads

External Relationships :

- Contractors, Vendors, External Trainers, Govt. Bodies, Union

Key Skills/Experience Required :
 
- Educational requirements: Bachelor's degree in Operations - B.Tech / B.E. or other related field with 6 + years of relevant experience

- Must have exposure to Production and Engineering functions

- Must have 2 - 3 years of experience in a leadership/ management role at a manufacturing facility

Technical :

- Knowledge of manufacturing operations, maintenance and engineering Knowledge of Safety & Quality norms

- Knowledge of Product Knowledge of Market
