Optical Design Engineer - Electro-Optics, Automotive HUDs & Lighting
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Optical Design Engineer with strong expertise in designing and developing optical and electro-optical systems for applications spanning Visible to Infrared spectrum, including Human Vision instruments, Night Vision systems, Automotive HUDs, Lighting, and Consumer Electronics. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in optical design, simulation, integration, and testing, along with proficiency in industry-standard tools like Zemax and ANSYS OPTIS SPEOS.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop optical systems for Visible to Infrared applications, including night vision goggles, binoculars, weapon sights, and thermal imaging cameras for aerospace, defense, and security sectors.
- Create detailed optical designs for lens systems, mirrors, prisms, filters, and diffractive optical elements (DOEs).
- Develop and optimize automotive lighting systems, Heads-Up Displays (HUDs), and Augmented Reality HUDs using ANSYS OPTIS SPEOS and Zemax.
- Perform optical simulations, tolerance analysis, and Monte Carlo analysis for imaging and illumination systems.
- Lead integration and functional testing of optical assemblies and electro-optical instruments using advanced optical instruments (e.g., Tri-Optics Opti-Spheric, Photometers, Dioptometers).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for mechanical integration, opto-electronic subsystem troubleshooting, and system-level design reviews.
- Manage multiple projects across different lifecycle stages, ensuring timely delivery and quality compliance.
- Support vendor management, procurement of optical components, and quality assurance activities.
- Prepare and present technical proposals for global clients, participate in field trials, and liaise with R&D teams and government agencies.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in automotive Exterior or Interior Lighting. Optical and electro-optical system design, simulation, and characterization.
- Expertise in optical imaging technologies, including lens design, filters, mirrors, and illumination systems.
- Strong proficiency in Zemax and ANSYS OPTIS SPEOS (CAA V5/UG NX) for optical design and simulation.
- Hands-on experience with optical instruments for testing and integration (e.g., Tri-Optics Opti-Spheric, Photometer, Theodolite).
- In-depth knowledge of optical materials, photometry, radiometry, and colorimetric studies.
- Experience in Automotive HUDs, AR-HUDs, Combiner HUDs, and lighting systems.
- Familiarity with Day/Night Vision technologies, thermal imaging, and augmented/virtual reality display technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and high level of self-initiative.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Skills
