Product Development Manager - Foods - CFTRI/IIT/LIT/NDRI/ICT/UDCIT (5-8 yrs)

A leading FMCG is looking out for Product Development Manager - Foods - CFTRI/IIT/LIT/NDRI/ICT/UDCIT

Purpose of role:

To focus on supporting the creation of new technology platforms for foods. Lead the NPD's. Provide continuous technical support to current portfolio and cost management initiatives

Qualification & Experience:

B.Tech, M Tech/ M.Sc. (Food Technology)

Experience of 5 to 8 years in R & D (at-least 3 years in savoury category)

Key Deliverables of the Role:

1. Anchoring the assessment of technology feasibility studies for creation of new platforms to address identified consumer needs

2. Identification of various technology options through extensive literature search, including study of scientific journals, patents, competition bench-marking and scanning of available technologies in other industries

3. Creating proof of principle for suitable technology options

4. Lead the process for approval and deployment of the suggested solution(s)

5. Build a robust and implementable project brief along with the Marketing team along with the product claims by doing the necessary IPR and patent search

6. Analyzing consumer data during the product development phase, interacting with marketing and consumer research insights group

7. Develop prototype and evaluate the same through stability studies in conjunction with Analytical and Packaging, sensory studies and consumer studies with CTI

8. Partner MARVEL FPR to manage and implement cost management initiatives

9. Leading standards for setting base RM quality and qualifying the RM through scale up trials while ensuring a) Productivity standards are achieved b) Product design is thorough and validated vs. lab / initial prototypes.

10. Liaising with Packaging development to recommend the most suitable packaging material for the launch and also supporting packaging development activities on the brand.

11. Working closely with the Functional Head, Nutrition Manager, CQA and Plants to ensure that the product quality compliance is met throughout the year.

12. Understanding H&W drivers for the target consumers and developing prototype to fuel the growth for the brands.

13. Collaborate and develop projects with other national/international labs: generate program scope and run programs successfully.

Skills and Competencies:

1. Experience in established R&D set up within FMCG Companies with successful product launches

2. Categories handled in the past to include Savoury - Noodles, Soups, Pasta, Snacks

3. Understanding insights and supporting for appropriate innovations / patents.

4. Good communication skills, team working, influencing skills, creativity and drive for Innovations

Reporting Relationships:

Upwards - Head, Functional Foods; Downwards - Team of Executive(s) and Sr. Officer(s), Foods

Other Key Interfaces:

Internal: Operations - Factory Managers, Plant Quality Manager, Manufacturing Managers; Quality - CQA Manager; Regulatory - Regulatory Manager; CTI - Consumer Insight Manager ( Technical & Marketing );Nutrition - Nutrition Manager; Marketing - Brand Managers

External: Various RMs supplier (Vegetable, flavors, seasoning, spices, cereal & cereal flakes and other cereal based products); Equipment and Machine suppliers. Analytical houses; Research Institutes.

Growth Path & Future:

Grow into the role of Head, functional Foods over a period of time based on performance, category growth and business needs.
