Purchase Officer - Civil Construction Field (2-3 yrs)
Job Summary
The Purchase Officer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services required for civil construction projects. The role ensures timely availability of quality materials at competitive prices while complying with company policies, project specifications, and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure construction materials such as cement, steel, aggregates, pipes, fittings, electrical & mechanical items, and consumables
- Coordinate with site engineers and project managers to understand material requirements and timelines
- Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable vendors and suppliers
- Prepare and issue purchase orders in line with approved budgets and BOQs
- Negotiate prices, delivery schedules, and payment terms with suppliers
- Ensure materials meet technical specifications and quality standards
- Track orders, deliveries, and material availability at project sites
- Maintain proper purchase documentation, records, and inventory reports
- Coordinate with stores, accounts, and logistics teams for smooth material flow
- Monitor market trends, price fluctuations, and availability of construction materials
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and project requirements
- Handle supplier claims, discrepancies, and material shortages
- Support audits and cost-control initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field
- 2- 7 years of experience in procurement within the civil construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction materials and local suppliers
Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Good understanding of BOQs, drawings, and construction schedules
- Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems, or procurement software
- Excellent coordination and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Cost-control and analytical mindset
