ROLE PROFILE

Job Title: Transportation Manager

Reports to: National Logistics Manager

Location: Gurgaon, India

SUMMARY

Transportation Manager is responsible for coordination of transportation operations of finished goods from the factories to the DCs & DCs to DCs in India. Responsible for budgeting, negotiations and signing of agreement with transporters in coordination with procurement & finance team

SCOPE / DIMENSIONS OF ROLE :

The role holder interacts closely with the Planning team, RLM and Factory Planners. Externally there is direct contact with the Distribution centers and transport agencies.

- Number of warehouses(26), Transporters(20+), Regional team (10+)

RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Work with the business on the network and budget the transportation costs.

- Work with factories in improving the productivity / truck load efficiencies to reduce the delivery cost.

- Work with consultants or ERP module and conduct the reverse Auction / online RFQ's and negotiation of yearly freight rate contracts.

- Finalizing the transportation strategy and firm up the negotiation strategies for different businesses / products.

- Developing the vendor base for different factory locations.

- Benchmarking of freight rates across industry.

- Work on the different levers to optimize the freight per case

- Collaborate with Vendors/Industry to create new options for reducing the delivery cost.

- Vendor reconciliation w.r.t freight and shortage/damage

Focusing on the transporter performance and ensure that the following parameters are tracked directly.

- Placement index

- On time delivery

- Damages/losses in transit & Claim management

- Incentive / Penalty enforcement as per the agreed contract

- Administration of the transporter rating / Scorecard system.

KEY CHALLENGES :

- Delivering budgeted costs and achieving agreed level of customer service

- Managing a wide and complex distribution network

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

- Qualification: BE/ B Tech or equivalent with solid logistics / transportation experience. MBA preferred but not mandatory

Experience :

- 4-6 years of experience for MBA candidates from premier institutes

- 2-3 years of experience in transportation is mandatory

- 8+ years of logistics experience for others

Logistics skills - In depth experience in managing transportation activities. Experience in warehousing operations & customer service is preferred

- Project management expertise

- Ability to appraise and use IT packages and electronic communication methods.

- Tact, diplomacy and calmness, especially when dealing with disgruntled customers.

- An analytic mind and good numeracy skills.

- Excellent geographical knowledge.

- Good people management and coordination skills.

- Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry.

- Good intuition to make crucial judgment calls.

- Achievement focused and able to work in a direct and often pressurized environment.

- Entrepreneurial skills in terms of innovation and problem solving

- Ability to influence and build relationships with key regional stakeholders(sales, finance)

- Perseverance, tough-mindedness and ability to influence

- Demonstrates strong team working abilities and commitment

- Commercial awareness - Understands the impact of Supply decisions on business profitability

- Excellent analytical and communication skills
