Senior Chemical Engineer - Plasma & Electrochemical Process (8-14 yrs)
Role Summary
- The Senior Chemical Engineer - Plasma & Electrochemical Process Scale-up will lead process engineering for our emerging plasma and electrochemical technologies, focusing on taking concepts from lab / bench scale to pilot and commercial plants.
- The role covers process design, scale-up, equipment sizing, basic engineering, vendor coordination, safety and compliance, and commissioning support for units such as plasma-based nitrate generation, electrochemical ammonia production, and electrochemical organic acid production.
- The incumbent will work closely with R&D, project engineering, E&I, and operations teams to ensure robust, safe, and cost-effective designs with clear CAPEX and OPEX visibility.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Lead translation of lab / pilot results into robust process designs for plasma and electrochemical units.
2. Develop detailed mass and energy balances, utility balances, and process calculations for each unit operation and integrated plant.
3. Define scale-up criteria (e.g., current density, specific energy input, gas residence time, mixing, hydrodynamics) and ensure safe, realistic scale-up factors from lab - pilot - commercial scale.
4. Identify and implement opportunities to reduce CAPEX and OPEX through process simplification, heat integration, improved energy efficiency, and better operating conditions.
5. Prepare and review Process Design Basis, PFDs, P&IDs, Line Lists, Equipment Lists, and Process Data Sheets for all key equipment (reactors, cells, columns, tanks, heat exchangers, scrubbers, pumps, compressors, etc.).
6. Support preparation of specification sheets for DC power supplies, plasma reactors, electrodes, membranes, ion-exchange columns, and other critical items.
7. Collaborate with external engineering consultants / EPCs for basic and detailed engineering, ensuring that process intent and safety requirements are maintained.
8. Provide structured input to HAZID / HAZOP / SIL and risk assessments; close out action items with appropriate design changes.
9. Identify and technically evaluate vendors for plasma sources, HV power supplies, electrodes, membranes, rectifiers, gas handling systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.
10. Prepare and review technical specifications, enquiry documents, and technical bid evaluations.
11. Work with procurement, project management, and vendors to resolve technical queries and ensure on-time delivery of equipment.
12. Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance guarantee tests for new plants.
13. Develop SOPs, control philosophies, and start-up / shutdown procedures for plasma and electrochemical units.
14. Train plant operations and maintenance teams on process fundamentals, critical parameters, and troubleshooting.
15. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to maximize uptime, yields, and energy efficiency after start-up.
