Program : Rejuvenation of Ex. Malgujari Tanks Project

Background of the Ex. Malgujari Tanks Project :

- The project on Rejuvenation of the Ex. Malgujari Tanks in Eastern Vidarbha has been operational since 2017 in the five districts of Nagpur division; Chandrapur, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Gondia with focused efforts from the government of Maharashtra, Tata Consultancy Services Foundation and the implementing team of Tata Trusts.


- The programme consists of two parts; one is the restoration of these tanks through civil repair works consisting of complete restructuring of sluice gates, major repairs of waste weirs, restructuring and concreting of earthen canals along with re-sectioning and raising of earthen bunds while the other is desilting in order to increase the water storage capacity of these tanks.


- The objective is to desilt the ex. Malgujari tanks in order to rejuvenate them to enhance the water storage capacity and thereby make it available for agriculture and other allied activities.

- The recruitment of a technical officer is aimed to give the existing project a desired direction and lead the team to achievement the set targets and objectives within the stipulated time frame.

Brief Job Description :

1) The expert should have advance knowledge of watershed development through De-siltation of tanks, recharge pits, contour trenches, farm bunds, farm ponds, check dams, boribands, etc. such that it retains most rainwater for optimum life time for the farmers.

2) Should be able to design, estimate soil and water conservation measures, Water resources development & management measures, School WATSAN, pipe line design, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, drinking water schemes.

3) Should be technically strong and train farmers for soil and water conservation work. Develop cadre of supervisors / village volunteer to undertake technical engineering work on ground.

4) Prepare measurement books for each and every engineering structure or earth work and get the same verified by a Third Party Agency for maintaining check on proper usage of Trusts- funds.

5) Ensure documentation of program activities. This includes filing of program contracts and agreements, proposal inclusive of the latest version of the budget and log frame, significant approvals and correspondence, minutes of review meetings, monthly plans and reports, financial Programmes and reports, lessons learned, success stories inclusive of any relevant photos or marketing material (interviews, etc.), significant Programme findings, annual work plans and so on; timely submission of a narrative and financial monthly progress report, work plans, etc. as required by the Trusts;

6) Participate in Annual Work Planning and meetings/workshops/conferences etc.

7) Facilitate the initiation of formation of Water User Association (WUA) in terms of design and operational aspect;

8) Perform other relevant duties as requested by Program Team/ Line Manager;

9) High level coordination, rapport building and liaison with the WUG, other key stakeholders as well as community, to plan initiatives and also provide timely input, support etc.

10) Prepare project plans for ongoing and new initiatives;

Qualifications required : M.E in Civil Engg/ M.Tech Agriculture Engg/ Irrigation/ Soil & water conservation / water resources/ or related specializations

Desired Experience :

- 5+ of Field experience in Watershed Development

- Experience in leading large field teams and liaising with local administrations, design, estimates of SWC / WRD / School WATSAN structures, etc. Candidates having knowledge of Marathi language will be preferred

- Extensive travel to sites will be required for minimum 15 days in a month
