Transmission Line Tower Design Engineer (2-7 yrs)
Job Summary
We are seeking a Transmission Line Tower Design Engineer responsible for the structural design and analysis of overhead transmission line towers for high-voltage projects. The role involves tower geometry design, load calculations, foundation coordination, and compliance with Indian and international standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Design & Engineering :
- Design lattice steel transmission line towers (suspension, tension, angle, dead-end) for 132 kV to 765 kV AC and HVDC systems
- Perform tower spotting, structural analysis, and member design
- Prepare and review tower geometry, bracing systems, and connection details
- Carry out loading calculations including wind, conductor, insulator, and broken wire conditions
- Design towers considering reliability levels and terrain categories
Standards & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards:
- IS 802 (Part 1 & 2)
- IS 875 (Wind loads)
- CBIP Manuals
- IEC / ASCE / EN (for international projects, if applicable)
- Incorporate utility-specific technical specifications Software & Tools
Perform analysis using software such as:
- PLS-Tower / PLS-CADD
- STAAD Pro
- Prepare design drawings and reports using AutoCAD and MS Excel
- Documentation & Coordination
- Prepare design calculation reports, BOMs
- Coordinate with foundation, line engineering, and fabrication teams
- Support tower testing, prototype approvals, and technical discussions with consultants
- Provide technical support during erection and commissioning stages
Qualifications :
Education :
Bachelor's Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
Master's degree in Structural Engineering (preferred)
Skills & Competencies :
- Strong understanding of structural analysis and steel design
- Knowledge of overhead transmission line engineering concepts
- Familiarity with tower testing procedures and failure modes
- Good communication and documentation skills

Preferred Experience :
- Experience with power utilities, consultants or EPC contractors
- Exposure to international transmission projects is an advantage
- Knowledge of foundation design for transmission towers is a plus
