Welding Engineer & Trainer - Center of Excellence (CoE)

Role Overview

The Welding Engineer & Trainer in the Welding Technology Department is responsible for developing welding procedures, qualifying welders, and overseeing welding practices in shipbuilding and heavy engineering projects. This involves ensuring all welding work meets international standards (AWS, IACS, ASTM, ASME) and training welders in best practices to enhance quality and productivity on construction and repair sites.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain welding procedures, specifications, and standards aligned with industry and project needs.

- Supervise various welding techniques, including submerged arc welding (SAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW).

- Conduct inspections, quality checks, and certification verifications to ensure weld integrity and safety compliance.

- Collaborate with design, engineering, and certification bodies to ensure weldability and meeting all regulatory requirements.

- Train and mentor welders, providing guidance on safe, efficient welding techniques and new technologies.

- Troubleshoot welding issues during construction, repairs, and testing, and carry out root cause analysis for defects.

- Maintain detailed records of welding procedures, qualifications, inspections, and certifications.

- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations in all welding activities.

Required Experience & Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.

- At least 7 years of experience in shipbuilding, petrochemical, or heavy engineering sectors, including experience managing welding operations.

- In-depth understanding of industry standards, including AWS D1.1, IACS W32/W33/W47, ASME, ASTM.

- Certified AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or CSWIP 3.1.

- Experience preparing, qualifying, and implementing PQRs, WPSs, and WQTs for various materials and weld types.

Skills & Competencies :

- Proficiency in modern welding techniques, equipment, and quality standards.

- Strong knowledge of welding codes, procedures, and nondestructive testing (NDT) methods.

- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team training skills.

- Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive welding documentation.

- Knowledge of CAD software and metallurgy related to welding processes.
