Primary objective :

- Lead all design /drafting activities relating to own discipline on assigned project.

- Liaise with Drafting Coordinator on design / drafting issues

- Ensure Health, Safety and Environment has the highest priority in all activities undertaken by the discipline personnel.

Specific Accountabilities :

- Ensure that costs are effectively controlled on work assigned to design / drafting personnel within assigned team.

- Monitor design/drafting estimating norms within asset for Instrument . Overall coordination by Chief/HOD

- Develop and promote drafting and CAD initiatives to improve cost effectiveness of design / drafting work within Instrument discipline in consultation with Chief / HOD.

- Ensure that the level of design work is appropriate for the complexity of the construction tasks, achieving a good balance between design costs and implementation costs.

- Work within budget constraints set by Lead Engineer.

- Manage performance appraisals and competency development of assigned personnel within project in consultation with Chief / HOD.

- Provide in-house training opportunities for design / drafting trainees - coordinated by supervision. Identify training requirements for team.

- Assist Chief / HOD in the recruitment of design / drafting personnel

- Allocate design / drafting work to team members. Ensure that within assigned team, personnel work within their competencies and with appropriate supervision.

- Estimate cost, time and resource requirements for design / drafting work in cooperation with Lead Engineer within team.

- Manage design documentation and drawings.

- Conduct site investigations, prepare reports

- Preparation of detail designs in conjunction with engineers

- Production of workpacks, drawings and documentation updates

- Liaison with other disciplines on technical issues. Co-ordination of design information between disciplines.

- Quality Assurance - Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the BU, etc

- Safety - Responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the BU, etc. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.

- Ensure that personnel are aware of the project safety and sustainability issues and goals, and that the SID/SD Discipline Manuals are being used.

- Ensure technical Integrity of design deliverables

- Working to a given schedule.

- Accuracy of design documentation and MTO's.

- Ensure that work is checked effectively before issue.

- Working to and using the company management systems (EMS).

- Compliance to company, customer, local and international standards as defined by the Discipline

- Design criteria and Basis of Design.

- To foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Skills/Experience :

- I.T.I or Diploma from reputed organisations (Preferably Government Organisations)

- 15-20 years + plus detail design experience within industry.

Matching Indicators : Preference will be given to candidates with extensive work experience at a senior level within the Oil & Gas industry.
